Angela O’Donoghue, owner of Esmé Beauty Bar had the opportunity to fuse floral and beauty together. With her professional background in flowers, she jumped at the chance and the lovely concept salon was born. Sourcing local, organic, and non-toxic products for Esmé’s spa services, Angela created a healing environment where women can get pampered and feel great about themselves. We caught up with Angela as she shared her love for 17th Avenue and how she’d spend her ideal day off.
Why did you choose 17th for your location?
17th Avenue was a natural choice for Esmé – especially in between 7th and 8th Street. This is where some of the most innovative businesses in Calgary have started. Historically, it’s a high-energy, welcoming, and above all, fun area. We love our trendy neighbours and we love the friendly Calgarians who frequent 17th.
Describe your perfect day on 17th:
First things first, I’d start the day off with brunch at Ox & Angela. Next, I’d get a little mid-morning pick-me-up at Ollia. Even though I’m often working closely with our in-house holistic nutritionist, I still need to treat myself! I’d then get a mani-pedi-facial at Esmé, of course. I’d then pop over to our neighbours at Fallen Angel for a psychic reading. I love their healing energy and beautiful selection of crystals. I’d finish it off with some shopping at any of 17th’s amazing boutiques. I can find rare brands and pieces of clothing that aren’t available anywhere else in Calgary.
When the day is done… the best place for a night out?
I would have to run back to Esmé to get Jessica, our makeup artist, to do a flawless smokey eye for me for the evening out. Then I’d meet my husband for dinner at Una, which is never complete without an order of their chicken wings.
What’s up next for Esmé?
We’ll be retailing our signature organic creams and scrubs so you can take the love home with you!
