New to the Ave: Blue Ivy Décor & Thrift Couture
World’s collide on 17th Ave with the fabulously fashionable duo Blue Ivy Décor and Thrift Couture (1314B 17th Ave SW). Sharing retail space and an eye for design, owners Chelsea (Blue Ivy) and Gillian (Thrift Couture) have collaborated to create a one stop shop for your home and closet needs.
Blue Ivy features beautiful pieces that have been restored and re-upholstered — all one of a kind home décor items with a touch of eclectic magic, including new and gently used items at very affordable prices. You can also find a range of gorgeous air plants, terrariums and unique hand-sewn cushions, along with carefully curated antiques. Blue Ivy also offers custom orders for customers who have that most special accent cushion in mind. Known for their crafty interior design background and handy woodworking skills, the end game is always to breathe new life into old treasures.
Thrift Couture was created with a passion for fashion and a serious addiction to second hand designer bargain hunting. Gillian’s “love of the hunt” began as shopping appointments based in her home and grew into this new 17th Ave staple. Featuring current trends and wardrobe must-haves, many of the item’s here are $5 or less (and a $2 clearance rack!) Find higher end designer pieces like Manolo Blahniks and Coach, mixed with Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Guess and Michael Kors. Every item has been handpicked with high hopes that a client looks in the mirror and feels instantly beautiful.
Right in the middle of the action on 17th, Thrift Couture and Blue Ivy are friendly neighbours to Khao San Thai Kitchen (“best green coconut curry ever”), Gloss Salon and Spa and Home and Away (“onion rings to die for!”) With great walking traffic and loads of repeat customers, the girls have found a happy home down their stylish set of stairs.
