Lunch Spotlight: Co Do

Although March 20 was officially the first day of Spring, it’s obvious that Calgary didn’t get the memo. With colder temperatures on it’s way and another snowy day upon us, this week had us craving something familiar, flavourful and guaranteed to warm us up: Co Do Vietnamese (1411 17 Ave. S.W.) was calling our name.

Generous portions and a variety of options have made Vietnamese cuisine a popular lunch choice on the Avenue, and at Co Do, the ambiance is simple and the focus is all on flavour.

For starters, we indulged in some perfectly-crafted pork salad rolls, accompanied by a sweet and tangy hoisin peanut sauce (3B, $4.95).

For the main event we decided on 30C, a delicious blend of lemon grass satay beef and sauteed onions on a bed of vermicelli rice noodles and fresh greens (30C, $8.50).

We also enjoyed a large bowl of traditional pho, which is vermicelli rice noodle soup served with rare beef in a steaming broth that cooks the beef to perfection (11A, $8.50).

We ended our meal with one of Co Do’s authentic Vietnamese iced coffees, a sweet and delicious blend of coffee and thickly condensed milk – or, as we like to call it, heaven in a cup.
